June in Fort Lauderdale: The World Cup, Culture & Your Perfect Summer Escape

The biggest sporting event on earth lands 30 minutes from your private heated pool. Here's why June 2026 is the month to be in South Florida.

By Jonathan McDermott · May 28, 2026 · Fort Lauderdale

There are summers, and then there's this summer. For the first time in history, the FIFA World Cup is being played on American soil — and Miami is one of the host cities. That means Hard Rock Stadium, just 30 minutes south of Fort Lauderdale, will host Brazil, Portugal, Uruguay, Colombia, and Scotland across four group stage matches in June alone.

But the World Cup isn't the only reason to book a trip. June in Fort Lauderdale is warm water and early sunrises, Las Olas Boulevard at golden hour, a world-class art exhibition in its final days, and the kind of laid-back luxury that Miami charges twice the price for. Whether you're coming for the matches, a long weekend with friends, or a Father's Day getaway, here's your guide to doing June right.

What's Happening

The Events Worth Planning Around

This is once-in-a-lifetime proximity to the world's biggest sporting event. Stay in Fort Lauderdale, skip the Miami hotel markup, and be at the stadium in 30 minutes.

The Smart Play

Why Fort Lauderdale Over Miami This June

Here's what the World Cup is going to do to Miami: hotel rates will spike, traffic will be brutal, and every restaurant within a mile of Brickell will have a two-hour wait. Meanwhile, Fort Lauderdale sits 30 minutes north with the same beaches, better dining-to-dollar ratio, and none of the chaos.

Las Olas Boulevard has the restaurants — from The Capital Grille and Seasons 52 to local spots like the Elbo Room, which has been pouring drinks for 75 years. The beach is clean, uncrowded by comparison, and the water in June is warm enough to swim in at 7 AM. Hugh Taylor Birch State Park offers 80 acres of kayaking, hiking, and nature trails right in the middle of the city.

And when match day arrives? You drive 30 minutes to Hard Rock Stadium, watch the game, and come home to a private heated saltwater pool instead of an overpriced hotel lobby.

Stay where the vacation actually feels like a vacation. Watch the World Cup from Miami. Sleep in Fort Lauderdale.

The Perfect 4-Day Weekend

Day 1 — Thursday
Arrive & Settle In

Fly into Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International (FLL) — it's 15 minutes from the house, not the 45-minute Uber from MIA. Drop your bags, change into something that breathes, and head straight to the heated pool. Let the travel melt off.

For dinner, walk Las Olas Boulevard. Grab a table at Timpano Italian Chophouse or keep it casual at Rocco's Tacos. End the night with a cocktail at Rhythm & Vine. You're on vacation — act like it.

Day 2 — Friday
Beach, Culture & Las Olas at Night

Morning at Las Olas Beach. Get there by 8 AM — the water is crystal clear and warm, and you'll beat the afternoon sun. Rent a paddleboard or just float. Lunch at S3 Sun, Surf and Sand at the Hilton Beach Resort — ocean views, solid menu.

Afternoon: catch the Michelangelo Sistine Chapel exhibition at Galleria Fort Lauderdale before it closes (if you're there before June 14). Then hit the NSU Art Museum on Las Olas Boulevard if you want more culture.

Dinner on Las Olas. Take your pick — there are over 60 restaurants on that strip alone.

Day 3 — Saturday
Match Day (or Adventure Day)

If it's a World Cup match day, sleep in. Enjoy a slow morning by the pool. Head to Hard Rock Stadium mid-afternoon — give yourself extra time because traffic around the venue will be intense. Soak in the atmosphere, watch the match, and head back to your own private retreat afterward.

No match? Take a morning kayak tour through the Intracoastal Waterway — you'll see manatees, herons, and mangroves. Or head 15 minutes north to Deerfield Beach for a change of scenery and some pier fishing.

Either way, end the night grilling by the pool. The house has everything you need.

Day 4 — Sunday
Slow Morning, One Last Swim

No alarm. Coffee by the pool. Take one last swim in the heated saltwater pool. Pack slowly. If your flight's in the afternoon, you've still got time for brunch — try Louie Bossi's Ristorante on Las Olas for the best people-watching in Fort Lauderdale.

FLL is 15 minutes away. No stress. No rush. That's the whole point.

Good to Know

June in Fort Lauderdale: The Basics

Weather: Expect highs around 90°F with humidity. The key is timing — mornings and evenings are gorgeous. Afternoons are hot, which is exactly why you want a private pool to come back to. Brief afternoon rain showers are common but they pass quickly and cool everything down.

Water temperature: The Atlantic is around 83°F in June. Warm enough to swim at sunrise. You won't need a wetsuit — you'll need sunscreen.

Getting around: You'll want a car for maximum flexibility, especially if you're heading to Hard Rock Stadium for a match. Rideshares work for Las Olas and the beach, and the water taxi is a fun way to see the canals. FLL airport is only 15 minutes from the house — half the time of driving from MIA.

What to pack: Sunscreen (seriously, SPF 50+), light breathable clothes, one nice outfit for Las Olas dinner, swimsuit, and a good attitude. Leave the jacket at home.
