Why Fort Lauderdale is the place to be this winter

Mild days, a heated saltwater pool and a quiet street minutes from Las Olas and the sand — for a week or for a few.

Why is late fall through early spring the best time to visit Fort Lauderdale?

While much of the country deals with cold, grey weather, Fort Lauderdale typically sees mild temperatures in the 70s, lower humidity than summer, and plenty of sunshine. The ocean is warm enough for swimming and outdoor dining is at its best. It is peak season for good reason.

The pool at Jonathan's House is heated year round, which matters more in January than people expect — South Florida evenings in winter can drop into the sixties.

What makes this part of Fort Lauderdale a good base for a longer stay?

The Middle River area is a quiet, tree-lined residential neighbourhood. You get the calm of a real street rather than a resort strip, while staying close to the beach and to the shops and dining along Las Olas Boulevard. It is a neighbourhood people live in, not a block of short-term rentals.

Is the house practical for snowbirds or remote workers on a longer stay?

Yes, within limits. The house books up to 21 nights as a rule, which covers a two- or three-week winter escape comfortably. Longer than that is sometimes possible, but it depends on the calendar and the specific dates, so it is worth asking rather than assuming. A longer stay also asks different questions of a house than a long weekend does. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a gas range and a second fridge, so you are cooking rather than eating out every night. Internet is reliable enough for video calls. There is in-unit laundry, so you are not driving to a laundromat in February. And there is room for people to be in the same house all day without being on top of each other.

Check-in is after 4:00 PM, check-out at 10:00 AM, and booking direct guarantees noon check-out at no extra charge — which matters more on a three-week stay than a two-night one, because you are packing rather differently.

For a stay of two weeks or more, message Jonathan before you book rather than after. He owns and runs the house, and a long booking is worth a conversation about dates, the calendar and anything you need in place before you arrive — and it is how anything beyond 21 nights gets arranged. Text him on 201-321-9330.
